Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence kick-off Event
The kick-off event of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence was held at Tbilisi State University.
Academician Jaba Samushia, Rector of Tbilisi State University, participated in the presentation event of the project, which was awarded funding under the European Union's ERASMUS+ program. He noted that this project establishes a new platform for discussion and expressed his anticipation that the center will effectively contribute to the nation's trajectory towards European integration.
The audience was addressed by Tamar Zarandia, Dean of the Faculty of Law at TSU, Khatuna Totladze, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maia Bitadze, Chairperson of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Parliament of Georgia, and academic personnel engaged in the project, Professor Malkhaz Matsaberidze and Associate Professor Eka Siradze.
The project's opening ceremony was attended by administrative and academic staff of Tbilisi State University, young researchers, public sector representatives, representatives of other higher education institutions, and students.
Professor Irine Kurdadze, the project coordinator, introduced the project's objectives and planned activities to the audience. She emphasized the importance of academic staff involvement in the project and noted the center's interdisciplinary approaches. She stated that the center's main goal is to support efforts to raise awareness about European Union integration. Given Georgia's status as an EU candidate country, the center focuses on the development of the following areas: 1) sustainability of human rights (equality, rights of vulnerable groups), 2) informational sustainability (accurate historical context, combating disinformation, information accessibility mechanisms), 3) social security (migration: emigration and immigration).
