Jaba Samushia Signs Memorandum of Cooperation between TSU and Geostat

Jaba Samushia, Rector of Tbilisi State University (TSU), and Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, which provides for the promotion of employment of TSU students, internship/practical training at Geostat and upgrading of qualifications.

“The signing of the memorandum is the beginning of a productive cooperation, because Geostat is a very important partner for Tbilisi State University, both in terms of research and employment. This cooperation opens great opportunities for our students. I think that our students will be involved in the general population census project carried out by the National Statistics Office of Georgia. Participation in this project will be interesting for our sociology and economics students from a research point of view. They can use this information as a starting point for future research,” said Rector Jaba Samushia.

The purpose of the mutual agreement is for the parties to contribute to the improvement of student qualifications and the development of professional skills; as well as to gaining practical experience, completing internship/practical training at Geostat, strengthening the theoretical knowledge received by university students within the program, developing sectoral competences and relevant skills for students.

“We have been cooperating with the university for a long time, and this memorandum will further strengthen this cooperation in the direction of practical training and employment of students. At this stage, it is planned to employ up to 950 people for the preparation of the population census. University students will have the opportunity to participate in this work based on a flexible work schedule. We will select students in a simplified manner, train them and offer them a suitable job,” said Gogita Todradze, the Executive Director of Geostat.

According to the memorandum, the University expresses its willingness to facilitate the participation of students with high academic performance in the internship competition announced by Geostat.
