Academician Jaba Samushia, Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, met with Mahmud Adib, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Georgia, and the Embassy’s representatives.

The sides discussed the Georgian-Iranian relations in the historical context, as well as the possibilities of joint educational projects and exchange programs between the universities of the two countries.

Rector Samushia said that the university is particularly concerned about the learning and development of Iranian language, history and culture in Georgia. “We have a great interest in deepening the relations that began a long time ago between our countries. Our university promotes the development of Iranian studies; we are raising a generation that is interested in learning the history, culture and language of Iran. We would like to further deepen the academic cooperation between our countries by intensifying exchange programs,” Jaba Samushia noted.

In turn, Iranian Ambassador Mahmud Adib focused on the historical experience that exists between Georgian and Iranian educational institutions.

The Ambassador expressed his desire to give more students and professors the opportunity to deepen their knowledge through exchange programs. “We highly appreciate the interest and scientific activities of Tbilisi State University in the study of Iranian culture and Persian language. Many of your graduates are employed at our Embassy in various positions, and we will definitely continue this tradition. Also, to deepen cooperation, we would like to develop long-term exchange programs for students of all three levels, scientists and professors,” the Ambassador said.

At the meeting it was decided to sign a memorandum of cooperation on joint educational and research activities between TSU and the leading universities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
