As part of the UNICEF initiative, Professor of Law Ton Liefaard of Leiden University visited Tbilisi State University at the invitation of the International Law Institute of the Faculty of Law of TSU and gave a public lecture on the topic: “Children’s Rights in Education.” Professor Liefaard is the Head of the Department of Child Law and Health Law and has many years of experience in this field.
The audience was welcomed by TSU Deputy Rector, Doctor of Law Nino Gvenetadze, Head of UNICEF Georgia Office Jesper Moller, and Director of the International Law Institute, Professor Irine Kurdadze. The speakers focused on the importance of education on children’s rights, noting that advocacy for children’s rights should be evidence-based and include raising awareness among broad segments of society. In turn, the sharing of experience by such a highly qualified expert will contribute to the deepening of child rights education at TSU.
Professor Liefaard reviewed the history of child rights education in the European academic space, aspects of the importance of establishing a system of child rights education. The guest also spoke about the possibilities of partnership between Leiden University and Tbilisi State University in the field of child rights. The meeting ended with a Q&A session.
