A conference dedicated to China's role in global politics from World War II to the present was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The Chinese Embassy and the China-Southeast Asia Research Center organized the event.
Attendees included TSU Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia; Zhou Qian, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Georgia; and students from the TSU Sinology Department. Georgian and foreign scholars presented reports on China's role in the world from World War II to the present.
Chinese Ambassador Zhou Qian stated that the conference is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. He emphasized the importance of holding such a conference to remind people of the significance of peace for our countries.
Beka Natsvlishvili, director of the China-Southeast Asia Research Center, said, "European and post-Soviet societies know little about the war China fought in the East during World War II. With today's conference, we are trying to raise awareness of this event.”
Since 2007, TSU has had a Department of Oriental Studies, operating in the format of the main undergraduate programs of Sinology and Japanese Studies. The university has been teaching the Chinese language since 2003. For years, TSU students have participated in long-term internships at various universities in China.
