TSU Hosts 6th International Staff Week

 

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) is hosting the 6th International Staff Week. Many of those present at the opening ceremony of the Week on October 9 noted that Tbilisi State University and its Department of Foreign Relations have gained a lot of experience in organizing the International Staff Week. 

TSU Chancellor Lasha Saghinadze, Deputy Head of the Department of Higher Education and Science Development of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Natia Gabitashvili, Head of the European Union Delegation Program, Nana Kochiashvili, representatives of TSU administration, professors, students and invited guests took part in the opening of the Week.

“This event is of great importance because it brings together people of different minds from different parts of the world with a common goal of achieving excellence in higher education. One of the main pillars of this cooperation is the role that student and staff mobility plays in harmonizing Georgian and European higher education. Student mobility and cooperation not only contribute to issues of cultural exchange, but also improve the quality of education from different perspectives of individuals and in terms of teaching methodology,” said Chancellor Lasha Saghinadze in his welcome speech.

Within the framework of the 6th International Staff Week, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is hosting 24 participants from 8 European countries, including Germany, France, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Turkey.  

Natia Gabitashvili from the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia noted that the Georgian government is ready to contribute to the internationalization of education and to ensure that Georgia is perceived as a reliable partner not only in the field of education. To this end, activities are being carried out in various directions.

Representatives of the TSU academic staff and students, who were sent abroad within the framework of the Erasmus + program, shared their experiences and opinions with the foreign guests and other participants of the event.

The participants of the International Staff Week had the opportunity to listen to the lecture of Professor Marine Chitashvili of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences: “Rebuilding Georgia as Part of Europe" and the lecture of the Director of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Ketevan Khutsishvili “Georgia through the Ages.” Both lectures were quite interactive due to the interest of the participants.

For five days, the participants of the International Staff Week will discuss the importance of internationalization in the process of effective management of universities, they will share their experiences and talk about the prospects of cooperation.

The participants of the International Staff Week are representatives of international relations and quality assurance services, heads of institutional bodies, administrative staff, participants from different countries.

The International Staff Week will end on October 13. Organized by the Department of Foreign Relations of TSU, the Week has been held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University since 2017. Its main goal is to deepen cooperation with leading European universities.

Since 2015, Tbilisi State University has participated in more than 420 Erasmus+ international credit mobility projects, in which TSU’s partners are 151 higher educational institutions from 28 countries.
