International Scientific Conference on Geoinformation Systems at TSU

An international scientific conference “Challenges of Modern Geoinformation Systems” dedicated to the memory of Mamuka (Malkhaz) Khurtsidze, one of the founders of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the applied field in Georgia, was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

 

TSU Associate Professor Tengiz Gordeziani said that foreign specialists from Great Britain are participating in the international conference together with Georgian scientists. The conference is actively attended by undergraduate, master and doctoral students who read interesting reports on modern geoinformation systems and discuss problems and challenges in the field. “The purpose of the conference is to promote the introduction of geoinformation systems in Georgia, the development of geoinformatics and cartography fields in the country. The event is dedicated to the memory of the famous Georgian practicing cartographer, GIS expert Mamuka Khurtsidze, as well as to the 25th anniversary of the geoinformation systems company GeoGraphic,” said Tengiz Gordeziani.   

 

The main directions of the international scientific conference are geoinformation technologies, planning, remote sensing, cartography, applied GIS in environmental protection, spatial planning, sectoral planning, research activities, socio-economic sector, health care, defense and other fields.
