Presentation of “Journal of Medical Law and Management”

The first “Journal of Medical Law and Management” was published in Georgia, which aims to lay the foundation for dialogue and cooperation between social and professional groups through scientific, educational and, in general, sectoral promotion activities. The multidisciplinary periodical was founded on the initiative of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Grigol Robakidze University, Bigvava Batiashvili Law Firm and Legal Aid Service.

“The magazine is conceived as a kind of platform where both lawyers and medical workers will present active trends – the trends that are characteristic of both the development of medicine and the regulations of the medical field. The journal will be interdisciplinary, and practitioners will be actively involved in it, so that the challenges accompanying medical practice are close to the field of science. The goal of the magazine is to raise the issue of medical law research, as well as to promote the protection of the rights of patients and doctors as much as possible,” TSU Professor Giorgi Khubua, editor-in-chief of the journal, noted.

“Until now, there was no scientific publication in Georgia that could bring together lawyers, medical community and patients, and take their interests into consideration. This journal will help improve the legislation, which will be tailored to both patients and doctors,” Rector of Grigol Robakidze University, Professor Mamuka Tavkhelidze said.

“Journal of Medical Law and Management” will contribute to the creation of scientific articles dedicated to the problems of medical law and management, the processing of specific medical legal cases, the development of the concept of the high-quality legal services for medical institutions and medical personnel, and the creation of a cycle of academic articles dedicated to this purpose.

“Medical law is an established field in all developed countries. This field is in the process of formation in Georgia. There is less research in medical issues in this regard. The journal includes the issues of judicial practice - not only national, but also analysis of court decisions in other countries. This will contribute to the development of this field in Georgia,” Professor Nunu Kvantaliani of Grigol Robakidze University noted.

The chief editors of the legal section of the journal are Professors Giorgi KhubuaTamar Zarandia, Nunu Kvantaliani and Associate Professor Giorgi Rusiashvili.
