Accreditation

Accreditation of programs is an external mechanism for ensuring the quality of higher education and is implemented by the National Center for Education Quality Enhancement. Accreditation is mandatory for regulated professions (law, medicine, veterinary, teacher education, maritime sciences) and doctoral programs. Accreditation is not mandatory for other programs, however, it is required for obtaining a national grant.

In the accreditation process, a higher education program is evaluated according to the extent to which a program meets pre-established standards. An evaluation is carried out by accreditation experts through a self-assessment report submitted by the university, accompanying documentation and an accreditation site-visit. After the evaluation, the relevant decision is made by the Accreditation Council whether to grant full accreditation, conditional accreditation or deny accreditation. Accreditation is valid for educational programs for seven years, and conditional accreditation lasts 1 to 2 years. Detailed information on the accreditation process and accreditation standards can be found on the Center's website.

The Center recognizes accreditation granted by the acting Quality Assurance Agency within the territory of the European Union's member states, by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and by US accreditation organizations operating under relevant legislation. Thus, it is possible to accredit an educational program by the International Agency for Quality Assurance if it meets the above criteria.

Today, TSU’s three educational programs are internationally accredited. The English-language Master's program in Public Administration is accredited by FIBAA, an international quality assurance agency, which is a member of ENQA. The undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Computer Engineering are accredited by the American Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and the English-language Bachelor's program in chemistry is certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS).
