The Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia presented the certificate of honorary doctorate of TSU to Professor Francisco Javier Padillo Ruiz, Head of the Department of Surgery at University Hospital in Seville.
By the decision of the Academic Council of TSU, Professor Francisco Javier Padillo Ruiz was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University for his contribution to the development of the Faculty of Medicine of TSU.
Rector Jaba Samushia said that the title of Honorary Doctor of TSU is the highest award that Tbilisi State University has been giving for more than a century to those professors who have made a significant contribution to the development of world science and popularization of the university’s activities. “Today, this award has been given to an internationally recognized surgeon who has been cooperating with TSU for 15 years. I congratulate him on this title and wish that his fruitful cooperation with TSU will continue for a long time and pave the way for the next generation,” said Jaba Samushia.
On the initiative of Professor Francisco Javier Padillo Ruiz, cooperation agreements were signed between Tbilisi State University and the University of Seville, as well as between the University Hospital of Seville and the Alexander Natishvili Institute of Morphology of TSU. On his initiative, a team of researchers from TSU and the University of Seville jointly submitted a project to obtain a European patent. Professor Francisco Javier Padillo Ruiz is a foreign consultant for grant projects presented by the Faculty of Medicine and the Institute of Morphology of TSU. Since 2020, Professor Francisco Javier Padillo Ruiz has been a member of the International Advisory Board of the Faculty of Medicine of TSU, as well as a member and co-organizer of the Scientific Committee of International Conferences.
Professor Francisco Javier Padillo Ruiz expressed his gratitude for the award, saying that it is a responsibility and motivation for him to continue working with Tbilisi State University and contribute to its development.
During the event, Professor Francisco Javier Padillo Ruiz presented a medal of the University of Seville to Rector Jaba Samushia and a gift of the University of Seville to Maia Bitskinashvili, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of TSU.
After the honorary doctorate awarding ceremony, Professor Francisco Javier Padillo Ruiz gave a public lecture on the development of transplantology.
