In commemoration of the 149th birth anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili, a scientific conference was convened at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU). At the conference, reports on Ivane Javakhishvili’s scientific legacy were presented by professors and teachers. The event was opened by TSU Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia.
On the initiative of Rector Samushia, a commission for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili will be established next year, consisting of representatives of the university community, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, the National Academy of Sciences, the Patriarchate and university rectors. “From September, we will begin active preparations so that the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili will be celebrated not only by the university, but also by the entire country,” Jaba Samushia said.
He also noted that the Georgian science, political life, and the thinking of Georgian society in the 20th century were determined by the Tbilisi State University founded by Ivane Javakhishvili. “Ivane Javakhishvili was a follower of European science. He brought the study of Georgian history to a different scale and level. In addition to his scientific contributions, he was recognized for his personal qualities, which included patriotism and humility,” Jaba Samushia noted.
The interdisciplinary scientific conference of professors and teachers dedicated to the 149th birth anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili was organized by the Faculty of Humanities of Tbilisi State University. In addition, the faculty will organize a scientific student conference dedicated to Ivane Javakhishvili’s birthday.
“This day is important not only for the university community, but for all Georgians. 149 years ago, a person was born, thanks to whom we teach, study and research a lot,” said Darejan Tvaltvadze, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities. According to her, the Faculty of Humanities traditionally holds a scientific conference dedicated to the birthday of Ivane Javakhishvili on April 23 every year.
After the event, the Rector of Tbilisi State University, together with representatives of the administration, professors and students, laid a wreath at the grave of Ivane Javakhishvili.
