The Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia, at a working meeting with the professor at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” spoke about the implementation of joint projects in the field of ethnology and the development of long-term cooperation between universities.
According to Rector Jaba Samushia, ethnologists and historians of Tbilisi State University and Sofia University are connected by a number of interesting projects. “We have planned to conduct joint ethnographic fieldwork with the participation of Bulgarian and Georgian students, the main topic of which will be a comparative analysis of the existence and culture of mountainous regions,” Jaba Samushia noted. He also said that the joint fieldwork will contribute to raising the qualifications of students, developing fieldwork skills, and gaining experience of working in an international group.
Professor Iliya Iliev from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” said that the mobility of professors and teachers between the universities will continue and many projects will be implemented in the fields of ethnology and history on topics of interest to both sides.
At the meeting it was planned to prepare a joint publication on Georgian-Bulgarian cultural and historical relations. To deepen the cooperation, a visit of the TSU delegation to Sofia University was also planned.
Professor Iliya Iliev from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” visited TSU at the invitation of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Faculty of Humanities of TSU. Within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ program, he gave a course of lectures to the students of TSU – “Gender, Age and Sainthood in Bulgaria in the 20th Century.”
