Presentation of the Book ‘Ancient Near Eastern Laws’ at TSU

A presentation of the new textbook Ancient Near Eastern Laws (authors: Erekle Astakhishvili, Maia Gambashidze, Nino Charekishvili) was held at Tbilisi State University (TSU). It is the first fundamental research in Georgia to deal with the perspectives of historical and legal comparative analysis of the oldest legal monuments in human history.

“Legal monuments accurately reflect the social, political, and cultural situation of the era. Accordingly, this book is the best source for studying that period. These sources are very interesting to study in the context of the Caucasus. That is why this publication is a very important acquisition for our students and the academic community,” said TSU Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia at the event.

According to Professor Erekle Astakhishvili, one of the authors of the publication, “After studying the texts, many things change, including many widely held and accepted opinions within scientific circles.”

The Ancient Near Eastern Laws is the third book published by this panel of authors. Previously, Hittite Funeral Ritual and The Plague Among the Hittites were published.
