A delegation from the National Ethnic Affairs Commission (NEAC) of the People's Republic of China visited Tbilisi State University (TSU). During the visit, the delegation met with Academician and Rector Jaba Samushia to discuss existing relations between Georgia and China in the field of education, education policy for ethnic minorities, and promoting their integration into society.
At the meeting, Jaba Samushia noted that TSU is a center for studying the Chinese language, culture and history in Georgia. He added that a new textbook on Chinese history has been published for this purpose and serves as a learning resource for students. TSU has close ties with leading Chinese universities and is ready to further develop these relations.
Zviad Gabisonia, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, and Lia Gigauri, the Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality of Georgia, spoke about the state policy of integrating ethnic minorities into civil society, the state language program, and expanding scholarship programs.
Qin Yizhi, a special committee member at the National Ethnic Affairs Commission (NEAC) of the People's Republic of China, noted that 120 million people living in China are ethnic minorities, and that the state pays great attention to issues related to them. To this end, the Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress promotes raising awareness of a community of the Chinese nation.
