Tbilisi State University Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia opened a scientific conference on the history of Georgian literature, which is dedicated to the 375th anniversary of Anthim the Iberian and the 320th anniversary of Davit Guramishvili.

During the event, Rector Samushia spoke about the importance of literacy and education in developing society and the country. He emphasized the significant contributions of Davit Guramishvili and Anthim the Iberian: “These two individuals set an example for us, Georgians, of love for our homeland.”

Speakers at the conference will discuss the first printing houses in Georgia and abroad, the development of Georgian printing, and the challenges librarians face. The conference will feature rare books printed at the Vakhtang VI Printing House and preserved in the TSU Library.

Zviad Gabisonia, the Georgian Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth, stated: “The work of Anthim the Iberian and Davit Guramishvili, their spiritual and material heritage, and their lives serve as example for Georgians.”

The event featured a hand-copied book of Davit Guramishvili's Davitiani. Each page was copied by famous people, including famous TSU graduates, and contemporary artists illustrated the book.

According to Zurab Gaiparashvili, the head the TSU library, the handwritten Davitiani will be made into an audiobook and then published as a book.

Organized by the TSU Library, the scientific conference was held with the support of Tinatin Nibloshvili, Deputy Chairperson of the Tbilisi City Municipal Assembly.

As part of the two-day event, TSU Library restorers will demonstrate restoration work to the public.
