Event Dedicated to University Women at TSU

An event dedicated to university women was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

During the evening, which was organized by the Friends of the TSU Library Club, TSU’s theater troupe, Skhveni, presented a theatrical performance depicting the role of women in the university’s history. The event commemorated the women of that era who contributed greatly to the worthy cause of creating and developing the university: Mariam Jambakur-Orbeliani, Elisabeth Bagrationi-Orbeliani, Wanda Hoppe-Ghambashidze, Medea Ghambashidze, Maro Makashvili, Tinatin Tsereteli, Nino Tsitsishvili, Vera Bardavelidze, Tsiala Svanidze, Marika Lortkipanidze, and Ana Kalandadze.

“We honored the women who were at the forefront of the university as professors, teachers, and students who created a great scientific era. They have made significant contributions to the foundation, development, and creation of the illustrious history of which we are so proud. It is especially gratifying that the idea for the event was conceived by current students of the university,” said Zurab Gaiparashvili, Head of the TSU Library.

The event also featured outstanding women from the university of our time. TSU Professor Inesa Merabishvili, who has worked at TSU for 50 years and educated many generations of young people, spoke about women’s achievements at the university. With great love and respect, she recalled her teacher, TSU Professor Meri Iankoshvili, who paved her way.

The TSU Museum organized an exhibition of archival materials on university women in the lobby of the assembly hall. In addition, an exhibition and sale of books from various publishing houses was held.
