The Ambassador of Japan to Georgia, Ishizuka Hideki, has donated educational, scientific and fictional literature to the Japanese Language and Culture Center of Tbilisi State University. Books about Japan were sent from Japan specifically for the Japanese Language and Culture Center of TSU. In 2010, with the financial support of the Embassy of Japan in Georgia, the Japanese Language and Culture Center was opened at Tbilisi State University. It was equipped with the latest technological resources and educational materials. The Center has become a significant educational resource for students pursuing proficiency in Japanese and Chinese languages.
Far Eastern Regional Studies has been offered as a minor program at TSU since 2007. In 2023, the updated program at TSU successfully passed accreditation and currently operates in the format of the main bachelor’s programs, offering specializations in Japanese Studies and Sinology.
Recently, Nana Gelashvili, the Head of the Center, was awarded by the Japanese Embassy for her “special contribution to the deepening of Georgian-Japanese relations.”
