International Masterclasses - CERN/IPPOG

As part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG) operating on its basis, Tbilisi State University hosted the second meeting of the 2025 sessions of the International CERN/IPPOG Masterclasses, which is implemented with the financial support of the Ministry.

The educational master class designed for students from various schools in Tbilisi was opened by Kakha Cheishvili, Deputy Rector of TSU, and Marina Lomouri, Head of the TSU Junior.

The aim of the CERN/IPPOG Masterclasses is to popularize science, innovation and technology, and to attract and interest the younger generation in basic research. Within the framework of the workshop conducted according to the CERN methodology, the young people, together with their foreign peers, had a good opportunity to demonstrate and evaluate their skills.

The CERN/IPPOG Masterclasses are held annually in Georgia, and the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth aims to involve more higher education institutions in the process. In 2025, four more masterclasses are planned to be held at four higher education institutions: Iakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University, Gori State University, Kutaisi International University and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. This year, parallel masterclasses are being held in Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Cyprus.

It is noteworthy that the cooperation between Georgia and CERN/IPPOG started in 2020, and since 2019, Georgia has been a full member of the IPPOG collaboration.
