A summary event for the targeted grant to popularize chemistry among schoolchildren was held at Tbilisi State University. As a result of various events organized under the SPG-25-652 grant from the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation for Science Popularization, interest in chemistry among schoolchildren has increased. This is evident by the approximately 4,000 students who attended these events.
A total of 18 fun lectures and 18 fun chemical experiments, as well as various activities, were held in about 40 schools in Kazbegi, Dusheti, Chiatura, Ambrolauri, Tbilisi, Rustavi and Batumi.
Interest in the activities carried out under the grant is also confirmed by the certificates and letters of appreciation that representatives of the TSU Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences received while implementing this project. The grant’s goal is to introduce students to scientific fields, reveal the presence of chemical technology in everyday life, and demonstrate the specifics of chemical experiments and laboratory work. This will encourage elementary school students to study the fundamentals of important STEM subjects and chemistry in higher grades.
The project will also broaden students’ horizons by introducing them to a wide range of modern technological fields, their practical applications and career opportunities in these fields, as well as the significant role of chemistry in agriculture and medicine. Grant staff, professors and students from the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University participated in the project’s implementation. The Student Services and Career Development Center of Tbilisi State University and its department, TSU Children's University (TSU Junior), coordinated and assisted in the project’s practical implementation.
