The 2026-2027 academic year has begun for 28,000 students and approximately 3,000 faculty members at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU). More than 7,000 applicants were enrolled in the bachelor's degree program at six TSU faculties (Humanities, Exact and Natural Sciences, Social and Political Sciences, Economics and Business, Law, and Psychology and Educational Sciences) through the Unified National Examinations.

TSU Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia, met with first-semester students and congratulated them on the start of the academic year. During the meetings held throughout the day, the deans of the faculties and Jaba Samushia talked to students about university projects and services, providing detailed information. Luka Tabidze, the president of the student self-government, also participated in the event.

The highest-scoring first-semester students enrolled in various TSU faculties through the 2026 Unified National Exams received certificates and commemorative gifts at the event.

During a meeting with students of the Faculty of Humanities, Rector Jaba Samushia, and Faculty of Humanities Dean, Professor Darejan Tvaltvadze, awarded Mariam Lomidze, the highest-scoring first-semester student enrolled in the TSU Faculty of Humanities through the 2026 Unified National Exams.

At the meeting with the first-semester law students, Rector Samushia and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Moris Shalikashvili, awarded Mariam Kharati, the highest-scoring first-semester law student enrolled through the 2026 Unified National Examinations.

At a joint meeting of students from two faculties, Rector Samushia, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Professor Salome Dundua, and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, Professor Anastasia Kitiashvili spoke to first-semester students about the current situation at TSU and future plans.

During the event, the Rector and the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences awarded Davit Otiashvili, the highest-scoring first-semester student enrolled in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences through the 2026 Unified National Examinations.

The Rector and the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences awarded Gvantsa Buzaladze, the highest-scoring first-semester student enrolled in the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences through the 2026 Unified National Examinations.

During the meeting with students of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, Rector Jaba Samushia and Dean, Professor Petre Babilua awarded Elene Mamulashvili, the highest-scoring first-semester student enrolled in the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences through the 2026 Unified National Examinations.

Rector Samushia and Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Professor Merab Khokhobaia, awarded Davit Samarganishvili, the first-semester student with the highest score enrolled in the Faculty of Economics and Business of TSU through the 2026 Unified National Examinations.

TSU is welcoming the new academic year with an updated infrastructure. Learning spaces have been renovated in various buildings, computer labs and student service centers have been established, and large-scale renovations are underway in the library. The goal of these projects is to create a modern, safe, and educational environment for students and faculty. These infrastructure projects were funded by TSU and the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia.

The university currently has seven faculties, 16 research institutes, and 85 laboratories. TSU offers more than 240 educational programs, including foreign-language and internationally accredited programs.

Tbilisi State University collaborates with over 200 partner universities from 56 countries. TSU students, professors, and administrative staff participate in the Erasmus+ program with 86 universities from 26 European countries.

Depending on their qualifications, the employment rate of TSU graduates ranges from 70% to 100%.
