Basketball Players Welcome Ceremony at TSU

 

The current year has been successful for the basketball team of Tbilisi State University. TSU won the two highest titles of the current season - the Georgian Cup and the Super League. The TSU basketball players brought both cups to the university, where the champions were ceremonially received. The event was attended by TSU students, professors, administrative staff, representatives of the Georgian Basketball Federation and fans.

Rector of TSU, Jaba Samushia awarded university medals to the basketball players, coaches and the representatives of the management of the TSU basketball club. “The success of our basketball players - winning the Georgian Cup and the Super League - is a very good example of how university sports should develop in Georgia. I congratulate our university and Georgia on such an important victory,” Rector Jaba Samushia said.   

The basketball team of Tbilisi State University “TSU” became the champion of Georgia for the first time in the history of the Super League. “It was a very interesting season for the team, we won both the Georgian Cup and the national championship. Our team won the national championship for the first time in its history. I am happy with the emotions of all the people who supported us throughout the season,” said Giorgi Tsintsadze, a basketball player of TSU and the national team of Georgia.

“The team of Tbilisi State University has made a great contribution to the development of basketball. The team has existed for decades and this achievement, this championship, is the result of very hard work, it is fully deserved. The composition of the team is also very strong and experienced. It is also important that it is a university team and that the students support it. I hope that they will not be satisfied with this victory and will continue to fight for further successes. Our federation will always support the champions of our country to play in the international arena,” said the President of the Georgian Basketball Federation, Viktor Sanikidze.

Giorgi Tsintsadze, a member of the TSU and the Georgian national team, was voted the best player of the season by sports journalists, Super League coaches, commissioners and referees, while Lexo Lapanashvili won the title of best coach of the season.
