TSU Associate Professor David Maziashvili, a member of the European Shakespeare Research Association (ESRA) and the International Shakespeare Association (ISA), participated in the World Shakespeare Congress, hosted by the University of Verona from July 20 to 26.
During the impressive program, Prof. David Maziashvili presented a paper from his latest bilingual monograph, Word as Music and Movement (2025), which is about the choreographic fantasy “Shakespeare. Love,” staged by contemporary Georgian artist Mariam Aleksidze at the Rustaveli National Theater in 2016.
Shakespeare and the main theme of the 2026 World Congress, “Planetary Shakespeares,” brought together the world’s leading Shakespeareans, scholars, artists, and publishers.
Organized by the International Shakespeare Association, the World Shakespeare Congress has been held every five years at various universities around the world since 1976. TSU professor Niko Kiasashvili, the founder of Shakespeare studies in Georgia, participated in the first World Congress. Since then, this year is the only other year in which a Georgian representative has participated.
