To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili’s birth, the TSU Publishing House released the second edition of the book “Life and Contributions of Ivane Javakhishvili.” The monograph’s author is TSU professor and corresponding member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Sergo Jorbenadze. He is also an Honored Scientist, and his 100th birth anniversary will be celebrated in 2026.
First published more than 40 years ago, the book not only describes Ivane Javakhishvili’s life, but also covers the period when the Georgian nation began to awaken at the beginning of the 20th century. Supported by archival documents, it presents facts and findings, and was edited by Academician Akaki Shanidze, who was a direct participant in the creation of the university and a friend of Ivane Javakhishvili.
This new edition is unique in that it gives readers the opportunity to see the scientist’s complete academic collection, including scientific papers and materials reflecting his public activities. TSU Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia played a special role in the re-edition of the book, as did many researchers, students, and family members of the author.
Those who supported the idea of republishing the book and played an active role in creating the final version are especially noteworthy. These individuals are: Kakha Rusidze, Natia Dvali, and Tamar Gabelaia.
