Prof. Konstantine Korkelia of the Faculty of Law Becomes Member of the UN Human Rights Committee

On May 29 of this year, elections were held at the UN headquarters in New York, and TSU Professor Konstantine Korkelia was elected as a member of the UN Human Rights Committee. He will exercise his authority from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2028.

 

Konstantine Korkelia has multiyear academic and practical experience in the field of human rights. He is the author of a number of scientific works published in Georgia and abroad.

 

Note: On May 29, nine members of the Human Rights Committee were elected from around the world. The Human Rights Committee is the body of 18 independent experts that monitors implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights by its State parties. All States parties are obliged to submit regular reports to the Committee on how civil and political rights are being implemented. The Human Rights Committee can receive and consider individual communications, also known as complaints, from or on behalf of a person or group of persons claiming to be victims of a violation of the Covenant by a State party.
