On April 30, students of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) marked Librarian’s Day in a special way. For one day, they took on the role of librarians, personally assisting readers at the TSU Library.
According to Zurab Gaiparashvili, Director of the TSU Library and head of the vocational program - Library Work, Librarian’s Day has been celebrated in Georgia for over two decades, and the TSU Library celebrates this occasion every year with various events. “I would like to congratulate all librarians on their professional day, especially the librarians of Tbilisi State University, educational library staff, and future librarians who are studying this fascinating profession through the TSU vocational program. Soon, they will officially begin their careers as librarians,” said Zurab Gaiparashvili.
Khatuna Chugoshvili, Head of the Shota Rustaveli Central Reading Hall at TSU Library and a vocational teacher, emphasized that being a librarian is a highly responsible profession, making its study especially important for future professionals. She noted that on this special day, students, including vocational students, actively engaged in library work, taking on the role of librarians for a day.
For vocational student Davit Matsaberidze, being a librarian is deeply connected to love for books. “My passion for books led me to decide one day that I wanted to become a librarian. The TSU Center for Vocational Education gave me this opportunity, and I am very happy with my choice. Every day I see myself growing in this field. One of the key characteristics of modern libraries and archives is their role in preserving information, which requires strong organization and management. I would be honored to become part of this great team,” said Davit Matsaberidze.
“Librarian’s Day is celebrated on April 30. I would like to congratulate all librarians on their professional day. As students and active readers, we hold deep appreciation for their work,” stated vocational student Murtaz Mataradze.
Librarian’s Day has been marked in Georgia since 2004, following the initiative of the Georgian Library Association. The librarian profession has been part of the curriculum at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) since 2016.
