Program Goals:
The goal of the PhD program is:
• Scientific research on theoretical and practical aspects of law;
• Development of legal science and legal thinking;
• Access to the essence of legal systems, identify their shortcomings and develop relevant proposals.
The goal of the PhD program is for the student:
Develop the necessary features that allow the expansion of knowledge and the use of innovative methods. The graduate should have the ability to apply the knowledge in practice. The graduate of PhD is entitled to hold an academic position in the higher education institutions of Georgia.
Prerequisite for admission to the program:
The Master of Laws or a person with an academic degree equal to it has the right to study in PhD.
In case the volume of the Master of Laws program passed by the doctoral candidate is less than 120 credits, also required the academic degree of Bachelor of Laws.
The right to study in PhD of Law may be granted to a graduate of a foreign university in accordance with the requirements of Article 50 of the Law of Georgia about Higher Education.
The PhD candidate is required to have knowledge of at least B2 level of one of the European scientific languages (English, German or French), which must be confirmed by a university exam or a relevant certificate.
A candidate for a PhD degree is exempted from taking a European scientific (English, German or French) language test or presenting a relevant certificate if he / she has completed a master's program in one of the languages in Georgia or abroad, which is a prerequisite for enrollment in a doctoral program.
A PhD candidate who wants to study in a Georgian language program and whose mother language is not Georgian is required to Submit a B2 level certificate of Georgian language (if any), or pass an exam in Georgian.
Procedures for enrollment in a doctoral law program are defined by the doctoral regulations of the TSU Faculty of Law.
Admission to the doctoral program is announced for the fall and / or spring semesters.

After completing the educational program, the graduate:
• Has knowledge based on the latest and / or current achievements in the field of law. Knows modern methods of scientific research and teaching in the field / sub-field or interdisciplinary field.
Ability to apply knowledge in practice
After completing the educational program, the graduate:
• Able to plan, implement and oversee innovative legal research; Develop new methods and approaches focused on creating new knowledge within the field. Has the ability to resolve legal conflicts through legal methods.

• Able to evaluate and critically analyze updated legal framework, case law or latest scientific advances, by new, complex and controversial approaches. After completing the educational program, the graduate:
• Able to present the latest scientific achievements to the international or national scientific community in a clear and substantiated manner and engaging in thematic polemics by participating in scientific conferences, creating scientific publications, monographs and textbooks. Etc.

• Has the ability to critically understand, assimilate and implement new views or ideas based on the latest scientific achievements in the process of learning or research.

After completing the educational program, the graduate:

Areas of employment:
Graduate of the PhD Program in Law is entitled to hold an academic position in higher education institutions of Georgia In accordance with the Georgia legislation rules.
The PhD of Laws is also given the opportunity to work in any position where it is required and not necessary to pass a state certification exam.
