Program Goal:
The goal of the Master of Laws educational program is to:
• To acquire in-depth and systematic knowledge in the public, private or criminal field and to develop the ability to apply the acquired knowledge in practice;
• Develop the ability to draw their own complex and original legal conclusions in the public, private or criminal field;
• Develop the ability to share their own legal findings and arguments with academic and professional community;
• Develop the ability to conduct study independently and conduct scientific research in public, private or criminal law;
• Develop the ability to form legal-ethical values.
Prerequisite for admission to the program:
A person with a bachelor's degree in law or an equivalent academic degree is eligible for enrollment in a Master of Laws program based on the results of general master's examinations and B2 level foreign (English, German, French, Russian) language and specialty university examinations.
Internal university exam questions / tests and student assessment criteria will be posted on the university website at least one month before the start of the exams.
Enrollment in the Master of Laws program on a mobility basis is possible twice a year, within the timeframes and rules of Georgian legislation.
Enrollment in the Master of Law educational program, or enrollment by transfer from a higher education institution of a foreign country is carried out within the timeframes and rules of the Georgia legislation.
Candidate who has a certificate of English, German, French or Russian at least B2 level is exempted from the foreign (English, German, French, Russian) language test. as well as a candidate who has completed English, German, French or Russian learning course under bachelor's or master's degree programs.
Learning Outcomes (Graduate should have the following general and field competencies)
After completing the Master of Laws program, the student:
(A) make a comprehensive assessment of legal issues based on knowledge of private, criminal or public law, uses the explanation methods to develop the best ways to solve them;
(B) Analyzes legislative innovations, modern court practice, forms its own complex and original legal conclusions on the basis of scientific innovations and synthesis of theoretical components and practical experience;
(C) Discusses with the academic and professional community its legal findings and arguments; In accordance with the standards of academic honesty, in Georgian and foreign languages (English, German, French, Russian), in written and verbal form;
(D) Plans the research process by generalized analysis and interpretation of primary sources, scientific articles and court decisions; Collects first data using relevant research methodology, Recognizes the methods of legal research required for conducting scientific research, makes a scientific research project;
(E) Analyzes the moral and ethical aspects of the legal professions; Ethical results of scientific research and, if necessary, and contributes to the formation of new values.
Therefore, upon completion of the Master of Laws program, it is expected that the student will be able to:
(A) Identify, formulate, analyze, and synthesize legal problems in the field of private, criminal or public law based on acquired knowledge.
(B) formulate its own original legal findings in the field of private, criminal or public law;
(C) Effective communication with the academic and professional community in Georgian and foreign languages (English, German, French, Russian);
(D) planning and conducting scientific research by analyzing and interpreting data in the field of private, criminal or public law;
(E) Adapting own behavior to the legal value system, analysis of ethical and moral aspects of legal professions and participate in their development.
Areas of employment:
The Master of Laws is trained to carry out high-level legal practice in the field of law and to continue his scientific work.
Accordingly, a graduate of the Master of Laws education program has the opportunity to work in any position where a Master of Laws degree is required and it is not necessary to pass the state certification exam and / or additional preconditions provided by the legislation of Georgia.
