Rector Jaba Samushia spoke about the development of Kartvelian studies and the significance of Kartvelological centers located in foreign countries. “This is a field that requires our attention and care. To facilitate the advancement of this field, it is essential to implement a unified state policy. We are ready, in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences and other universities, to develop a strategy for developing Kartvelian science,” said Jaba Samushia. He further stated that numerous universities worldwide have expressed interest in establishing Kartvelological centers. A considerable number of universities have already established such centers, where the Georgian language, culture, and history are taught.

The objective of the International Kartvelological Congress is to safeguard and popularize the Georgian language, culture and history. Additionally, it seeks to facilitate collaboration between foreign and Georgian scholars engaged in Kartvelian studies, enabling them to gain insight into the latest advancements in this field.

The Congress has been held every three years since 2015 under the auspices of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences. The Congress is chaired by Academician Roin Metreveli, who is also the President of the Academy.
