The Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia opened the presentation of the collection, entitled “Queen Ketevan the Martyr and Historical Diplomatic Relations of Georgia and Portugal.” The collection is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Portugal.
Rector Samushia spoke about the history of Georgian-Portuguese relations and further deepening of these relations. He emphasized the importance of the collection and its content. “We cannot but remember the support of the Portuguese government for the Georgian emigration. Today our relations are at a completely different level. The Embassy of Georgia in Portugal, Ambassador Giorgi Mirtskhulava and his team are doing a lot to deepen these relations. The links at the university level are a clear example of the deepening of these bilateral relations,” said Jaba Samushia.
The presentation of the collection was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Georgia, Osvaldo Biato Jr., the delegation of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) and its Executive Secretary Zacarias Albano da Costa, the Georgian Ambassador to Portugal, Giorgi Mirtskhulava, TSU professors and administrative staff.
The members of the Portuguese delegation highlighted the ongoing projects and relationships that are of great importance for the future cooperation between the two countries.
The purpose of the reports presented in the illustrated collection published by Cezanne Publishing in three languages - Georgian, Portuguese and English - is to introduce the historical, diplomatic and cultural relations between Georgia and Portugal to the general public.
