Academician Jaba Samushia, the Rector of Tbilisi State University, held a working meeting with Ambassador Maria Teresa Lazaro, the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines.
The participants of the meeting talked about the expansion of the existing relations between Tbilisi State University and the higher educational institutions of the Philippines and discussed the implementation of joint educational and research projects.
The Rector of TSU, Jaba Samushia informed the guest about the history of the university, educational programs and spoke about the participation of TSU scientists in international projects. He provided detailed information about the opportunities available at the university in the field of medicine. “The relations between the Tbilisi State University and the universities of the Republic of the Philippines should be expanded, for which it is necessary to sign memorandums of cooperation,” Rector Samushia noted.
Ambassador Maria Teresa Lazaro, the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, focused on the development of cooperation in the field of medicine. “We train many young people in the field of health care, and we have many schools. I think it is important to deepen collaboration in the field of medicine. We can exchange professors, students and share experiences with each other. Connecting our universities in the research part will be important,” she added.
At the Ambassador’s initiative, Philippine diplomats will give public lectures to TSU students. Rector Samushia offered the Ambassador to give a lecture at TSU and share her experience in international relations.
During the meeting, it was also planned to prepare an informational publication about Georgia and the Philippines in cooperation with the Embassy and distribute it to the university community.
