Georgian National Office of the Francophone University Agency (AUF) Opens at TSU

 

Academician Jaba Samushia, the Rector of Tbilisi State University, and Laure Castin, Regional Director of the Francophone University Agency for Central and Eastern Europe, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation under which the Georgian National Office of AUF will be located at TSU.

The event was attended by Tamar Garibashvili, Head of the Francophone University Agency in Georgia, representatives of AUF partner universities and organizations, professors of French language and French language programs, students.

Rector Jaba Samushia said that TSU has a multi-year collaboration with the Francophone University Agency. “It is important for our university to promote the teaching of French language and culture. Today we are hosting the representation of AUF, one of the largest organizations of the Francophonie, and we are entering a new stage of cooperation that will further contribute to the popularization of the French language and the development of teaching methods,” said Jaba Samushia.

The National Office supports the implementation of AUF projects in Georgia in cooperation with the AUF Regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe. The Francophone Employment Center (the Centre d'Employabilité Francophone (CEF)) will be located at the National Office.

Laure Castin, Regional Director of the Francophone University Agency for Central and Eastern Europe, noted that TSU is the first associate member university of AUF in Georgia. She welcomed the decision to open AUF’s Georgian National Office at TSU, adding that a Francophone Employment Center (CEF) will also be established at TSU under the memorandum.

The Francophone University Agency (AUF) is one of the largest associations of higher education and research institutions in the world. It brings together more than 1000 universities, colleges, university networks and scientific research centers. TSU has been a member of AUF since 2008. In 2023, Rector Jaba Samushia was elected Vice President of the Conference of Rectors of the Francophone University Agency (AUF) in Central and Eastern Europe at the Rectors’ Conference held in Bucharest, upon the nomination of the Georgian delegation.
