The TSU Arnold Chikobava Institute of Linguistics will host the 5th International Conference “Terminology - Heritage and Modernity” on October 6-7. The conference is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Department of Scientific Terminology.
Both Georgian and foreign linguists and terminologists will participate in the event. The main topic of discussion is protecting linguistic heritage and ensuring its unhindered development in the digital era.
The conference will bring together scientists from Lithuania, Poland, the United States, France, Croatia, Sweden, and Belgium. Several countries are represented on the conference’s scientific committee, including Ireland, Canada, Sweden, Greece, Austria, and Colombia.
Notably, over 12 Georgian educational, research and state institutions are participating in the conference.
The reports presented at the conference are divided into several main areas:

f) Terminology Standardization and Editorial Policy
g) Theological, Philosophical and Ethnocultural Terminology
h) Onomastics, Dialectology, Phytonymy and Medicine
Invited speakers will discuss ways to protect and develop national terminology in the digital age: Henrik Nilsson – President of the European Association for Terminology (EAFT)

As part of the conference program, an exhibition of field dictionaries and archival materials of the Department of Scientific Terminology – “From Cards to Terminology Bank” will be organized in the Maro Makashvili Hall. The history of scientific terminology will be discussed, as well as its current state and future plans.
