Presentation of TSU Literary Almanac Pirveli Skhivi at International Book Festival

Pirveli Skhivi is a traditional university magazine that, over the years, has aimed to encourage young creative minds and showcase their work to readers.

The first issue was published in 1950 under the leadership of the university’s then rector, Niko Ketskhoveli. Pirveli Skhivi featured the literary debuts of notable Georgian writers and scientists, including Nodar Dumbadze, Rezo Inanishvili, Archil Sulakauri, Tamaz Chkhenkeli, Mukhran Machavariani, Revaz Japaridze, Tamaz Chiladze, Otar Chiladze, Vakhtang Javakhadze, Shota Nishnianidze, Moris Potskhishvili, Vakhushti Kotetishvili, Jansug Charkviani, Tariel Chanturia, Lia Sturua and Rezo Cheishvili.

In addition to original prose and poetry, the magazine publishes translations from various languages. A separate section is dedicated to dramaturgy, literary studies and criticism. There is also a section called “Master Class”, which introduces young writers to the perspectives of foreign and contemporary Georgian authors on the art of writing.

The restored almanac is not limited to Tbilisi State University; other young poets, prose writers and literary scholars can also publish their work in it.

Almanac editor, TSU professor, and writer Giorgi Lobzhanidze held a presentation at the book festival.
