Within the framework of the University Capacity Building Program (UCBP), Deputy Rector of TSU, Erekle Astakhishvili paid a two-week working visit to the United States. The purpose of his visit was to get acquainted with the experience of American universities, attract new partners, create joint scientific projects, exchange students and administer science. Erekle Astakhishvili discussed these issues at meetings with representatives of American universities.
The sides discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the field of science administration, including the creation of a grant office that will help TSU scientists not only in cooperation with U.S. universities, but also in the process of science administration, which includes preparing grant proposals, finding partner organizations, sharing project results and fundraising.
During the meetings organized by the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, the National Council of University Research Administrators and the American Councils Georgia Office, the Georgian delegation consisting of representatives of various Georgian universities, the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, and the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, learned about the experience of leading U.S. universities, including Harvard University, Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania, and other higher education institutions. Specific areas of cooperation were outlined at the meetings. The sides discussed the issues of organizing winter and summer schools and exchange programs.
The University Capacity Building Program (UCBP) is a grant initiative funded by the U.S. Embassy in Georgia to build and sustain research administration and development offices at Georgian universities to increase the contribution of higher education and public research institutions to Georgia’s innovation and economic growth. UCBP is administered by the American Councils for International Education in close partnership with the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA).
