The cooperation between Tbilisi State University (TSU) and the University of Tuscia (Italy) has entered a new stage. TSU Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia and Professor Stefano Ubertini signed a memorandum aimed to deepen bilateral cooperation in the fields of education and science.
The memorandum outlines plans to develop joint educational programs at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. These programs will enable students to earn dual degrees from both TSU and Tuscia University. The memorandum emphasizes that the collaboration between the two universities is based on common interests in cultural, educational and scientific areas. It also provides for the exchange of experience and knowledge, as well as joint research and project implementation, which will contribute significantly to the social and cultural development of both countries.
Rector Jaba Samushia emphasized the importance of the memorandum, noting that Tuscia University is one of the most distinguished educational and research centers in Italy, particularly in the field of archaeology. “This region of Italy is known for its rich archaeological heritage, from the Etruscan civilization to the Roman and medieval monuments. It is important that our students gain both theoretical and practical experience in Italy. They will study at Tuscia University for one semester and conduct archaeological research on specific monuments. Similarly, Tuscia University students will also study at TSU and participate in archaeological excavations in Georgia. This process contributes to the internationalization of universities and strengthens the international academic network,” Samushia said.
In the next stage, the universities will sign an agreement regulating the courses and activities related to the double degree program. Students will be selected through an annual competition announced by both universities. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to study in English-language programs and spend one semester at the host university.
A TSU delegation led by Rector Jaba Samushia visited Tuscia University as part of the Erasmus+ international mobility program. During the visit, the two universities signed the memorandum and planned further active cooperation.
