The main purpose of the MA program is to train a professional psychologist in the field of developmental psychology, psychological assessment and consultation of children and adolescents that will fill the gap in the sphere of psycho-diagnostic and psychological assistance of preschool and school children, consulting their parents and teachers. Without adequate assessment of children’s and adolescents’ academic skills and personal qualities, timely identification of emotional and behavioral disorders as well as planning and implementation of qualified interventions, it is extremely difficult to carry out the learning process in an optimal manner, to take an individual approach towards children and create an enabling environment for their normal growth and development.
One of the key tasks of the program is to teach the techniques of working with diagnostic tools and what is especially important, to promote the creation and standardization of Georgian versions of foreign tools recognized in modern psychology. The implementation of this task has been dictated by the shortage of psycho-diagnostic methods, including diagnostic tools designed for children and adolescents. This task is an organic continuation of the work conducted in the framework of the previous MA program. The program focuses on acquiring theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for diagnosis and consultation of children and adolescents.
