HORIZON EUROPE Project WARIE – Widening AI Research and Innovation for Excellence in the Eastern Partnership

The WARIE (HORIZON-WIDERA-2025-01, HORIZON CSA) project aims to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) research and innovation capacity in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) region, particularly in Armenia, Georgia, and Moldova. Although AI is a strategic priority in these countries, research infrastructures, human capital, and research management systems still need strengthening in order to compete internationally and integrate more deeply with the European Research Area (ERA). The project will run for 48 months (2026 - 2030) and will bring together universities and research centers from the EaP region with leading European AI institutions to build sustainable research excellence and innovation ecosystems.

Tbilisi State University (TSU) plays an important role as a research and education partner in the project. For this project, TSU will be represented by the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, the TSU Department of Scientific Research and Development, and the Central Quality Assurance Office, ensuring university-wide coordination of project activities.

Key Activities

The project will implement a coordinated set of activities including:

  • Creation of interdisciplinary AI research hubs in participating countries;
  • Training programs, summer schools, and mobility schemes for researchers and students;
  • Development of advanced digital infrastructures and open science practices;
  • Joint research projects addressing challenges in health, agriculture, and sustainability;
  • Networking and collaboration with leading European AI centers;
  • Dissemination of results to academia, industry, policymakers, and society.
