Mery Gochiashvili has been working at the Central Library of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) for 9 years. The knowledge she gained from the vocational education program at TSU plays an important role in her successful work at the library where she has been actively involved in library services and organizing cultural-educational events for years. Mery graduated from the Library Work vocational education program in 2018.
Interestingly, when the new vocational programs were announced, Mery was already an employee at the TSU Library but that did not stop her from pursuing formal education in the very field she loved.
"As soon as the vocational educational program in Library Work was announced, I submitted my application. During my studies, I learned a lot about library services, terminology, and time management. We were taught by highly experienced and qualified professionals. Overall, this program helped me significantly improve and refine my professional skills," Mery recalls.
Mery graduated from the vocational program in 2018. Her story of employment at the TSU Library feels almost like a modern fairy tale. In 2010, Mery enrolled at the Faculty of Humanities at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. That same year, the Shota Rustaveli Reading Hall opened at TSU - a place she visited frequently.
"When I became a student at TSU, there was this lovely tradition: students would tie their wishes on the Christmas tree placed in the main university building. My wish was to work at the library. The university administration found out whose wish it was, and they also noticed how often I visited the reading hall. They offered me a part-time job for three months. Later, my contract was extended and I’ve been working at the library ever since." Mery shares.
Today, Mery Gochiashvili continues to successfully combine her love for books, education, and library services - proving that sometimes wishes really do come true.
