TSU – Leader in Scientific Research

49 out of 123 winning projects of 2021-2022 call for fundamental research state grants of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation were submitted by the scientists of Tbilisi State University – the number exceeding the grants received by other higher educational institutions or organizations of Georgia. In addition, TSU improved its results and received more grants in the history of the competition (previously, the National Science Foundation financed 42 projects submitted by TSU in 2012). The success of TSU scientists has once again confirmed that Tbilisi State University remains the leading research institution of Georgia.

580 projects were registered in 2021-2022 to participate in the competition announced by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation for fundamental research state grants. 509 projects moved to the stage of evaluation.

The European Science Foundation evaluated the projects in three stages, namely:

Primary evaluation of each project by two independent experts;

Rebuttal by project manager for a primary evaluation;

Panel evaluation of each project by a group of experts considering the primary evaluation and rebuttal by project manager.

The budget for 2021-2022 has doubled compared to previous years, exceeding GEL 8 million. The competition covers all scientific fields defined by the European Research Council.
